While growing up I was very creative and imaginative. Art class was my favorite subject in school. I remember using so many different tools in class. I loved having time to myself when I was home, and I would just paint or draw using pastels. Life just seemed to pull me in a different direction, and I never pursued getting an art degree.
I’m a self-taught artist in oil and acrylic paints. My paintings are original. There are times I will see something in my travels or online that will inspire me to create my own version of what I have seen. I’m constantly challenging myself to learn new techniques or different mediums.
In this bizarre world, I’d like to bring some peace and calmness to people through my artwork. Painting truly is my passion, and I can’t imagine life without being able to paint. Painting to me is personal but it is my desire to share it with the world. My paintings become my babies and it is quite difficult to part with them. If my paintings touch another person in some way, then that makes it easier for me.
On September 5, 2021, I went to a “Paint and Sip” event with a friend. I started painting using only acrylics. My passion for painting and art was ignited at this event. I continued going to more “Paint and Sip” events on my own since I knew I just wanted to paint, and I hadn’t started investing in supplies yet. I really didn’t even think about starting a business until my family, friends and co-workers encouraged me to do so. They have been so supportive, and I thank them for believing in me.
Several months into my journey I felt it was time had come to develop new skills and work with different mediums. With no formal training, I dove right in, and I started painting in oils. This led me to what is known as the wet-on-wet technique. This is when a liquid oil-based medium is applied thinly to the canvas, allowing to blend the oils directly on the canvas. It also has a longer drying time which is extremely beneficial especially when painting on larger canvases. I love creating landscapes and seascapes in oil.
I eventually found my way into a technique called fluid art or pour art using acrylics. I use various techniques such as the Dutch pour, flip cups, dirty pour, straight pour, dips and swipes. I use many different mediums and tools experimenting with different color combinations and ratio of paint and additional mediums.
I have done some abstract pieces and will continue adding new pieces to my collections.
From the start I found creating art to be tremendously therapeutic and meditative. It allows me to get out of my head and just be in the moment. I lean towards creating paintings, that I hope, convey a sense of serenity and harmony. However, I also have pushed the boundaries and created some darker pieces.
I’m currently using my living room as my studio. One day I do plan on having my very own art studio, so I won’t be limited by the size of canvases any longer.
I truly hope you love my paintings as much as I love creating them.
